About Sildenafil

Label strengths: 25, 50 and 100 mg. The usual starting dose is 50 mg about 1 hour before sex, adjusted by the prescriber; the labeled timing range is 30 minutes to 4 hours beforehand. Maximum once daily for most patients. A high-fat meal may delay onset. Sexual stimulation is required; it does not increase desire. Common effects include headache, flushing, indigestion, nasal congestion and temporary visual changes.

Prescription required in the U.S.; a clinician must assess suitability and choose the dose. Never combine with nitrates, nitrite 'poppers', or riociguat. Review heart health, kidney/liver disease, alpha-blockers, blood-pressure medicines and CYP3A4 interactions. Do not combine ED medicines. Get emergency care for an erection lasting over 4 hours; stop use and seek prompt care for sudden vision/hearing loss. For chest pain during sex, stop and get urgent care; tell responders when the last dose was taken.
